ASIA/TAIWAN - Profound educational significance of Lenten charity: joint open letter from Caritas and Bishops’ Commission for Social Development

Thursday, 16 March 2006

Taipei (Fides Service) - The Taiwan Bishops’ Commission for Social Development and Caritas issued a joint open letter for Lent calling Catholics to exercise charity. “During Lent the faithful should be encouraged to take every opportunity to exercise charity, to have a heart filled with mercy ever as a child. Charity has a highly educational significance”
According to Christian Life Weekly, the two bodies share and put into practice the teaching of Pope Benedict XVI in his message for Lent writing: “Charity knows no distinction of social status, class, age or geography: it is a commitment for all. Each year when we distribute the Lenten collection we try to meet the needs of people, hospitals and social institutes run by the Catholic Church. Old people, disabled people, the sick, poor children, orphans wait for our small but precious contribution”. (Agenzia Fides 16/03/2006 Righe: 21 Parole: 211)
