Taipei (Fides Service) - “We pray this community may be ever more mature in the faith and offer a service of evangelisation thanks to active participation of the laity who are already of great help to the parish priest and in collaboration with other communities. Give attention to formation and growth in the faith and you will become examples for others” Bishop Joseph Wang of Tai Chung, told parishioners at Our Lady of Lourdes parish during recent 50th anniversary celebrations. Taipei archdiocesan bulletin Christian Life Weekly, reports that many priests who served in the parish in the past were present for the 50th anniversary Mass and more than 5,000 local Catholics.
The parish was opened by MaryKnoll Missionaries. In the past fifty years the parish has grown thanks to commitment on the part of priests, religious, laity and foreign missionaries. “But much remains to be done said Bishop Wang: “The path is still long. We must ask Our Lady of Lourdes to assist us in the task of evangelisation”. (Agenzia Fides 14/3/2006 Righe: 23 Parole: 220)
