Hong Kong (Fides Service) -“Be living tabernacles, witnesses in daily life of the Lord’s Salvation. The mission of Hospital pastoral operators is to witness to the presence of Christ and build a relationship of support for the sick and their families to help them in their suffering” said Mgr Dominic Chan at a mass for the diocesan Hospital Pastoral council. According to the diocesan bulletin Kong Ko Bao physical and moral care for the patients was the central theme of the recent meeting of the council. One hospital pastoral operator, a priest, who shared his experience with the others, said hospital pastoral care entails human and spiritual care, brotherly accompaniment for the patients and also religious sensitivity. “We respect people of a different faith and bear witness in humility and service”, the priest said.
Hong Kong’s Diocesan Hospital Pastoral council Hong Kong was established in 1991. Today it is present with a Pastoral Council Room and service in 28 different hospitals. Last year its members assisted about 70,000 of whom 47,000 were non Christians.
