San Salvador (Agenzia Fides) - The parties are called upon to conduct an “ambitious” election campaign that ensures transparency of political processes and electoral decisions, said Archbishop José Luis Escobar of San Salvador in a note posted on the archdiocese's social media. "It is to be hoped that an ambitious campaign with civilian manners will take place for the benefit of all, because the population deserves it. The campaign has not yet started, but we hope that it will be characterized by respect for society". In addition, the institutions must "function without any pressure and ensure that the electoral process develops as best as possible". The Archbishop notes that "there has been no fraud in the electoral process, either recently or in the past. It is important that everything is done with the utmost transparency".
El Salvador will elect 84 members of the legislative assembly and the leadership of the 262 municipalities in February 2021. The population expects a lot from the new party that emerged from the movement of current President Nayib Bukele and is led by his cousin. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 28/11/2020)
