Brasilia (Agenzia Fides) - The Episcopal Commission for Missionary Action and Cooperation among Churches of the Brazilian Bishops' Conference (CNBB) presented, in a virtual meeting, the structure of the working groups that were formed by the executive team of the National Missionary Council (COMINA) and by volunteers, for the implementation of the National Missionary Program (NMP), adepte by the Church in Brazil during the 57th General Assembly of Bishops, in May 2019.
The note sent to Agenzia Fides it emphasizes that there will be six working groups in all, two more than foreseen in the NMP.
According to the adviser of the Commission, Father Daniel Rochetti, since 2019 there has been the will to involve volunteers and specialists from different sectors so that the NMP does not only remain on paper but that it comes to life without relying on the advisers of the Commission. The first meeting brought together people from different parts of Brazil and from various ecclesial realities, such as priests, religious and lay people involved directly or indirectly in the mission, "all passionate about missionary action and in harmony with the NMP", underlines Father Daniel. Each group will be composed of about eight people, including a Bishop and a member of the COMINA executive, who will ensure the link with the commission and the other groups. The teams have until March 2021 to prepare and present a work program that will be developed throughout the year.
These are the objectives of the six working groups. Missionary Formation : will have to form a team of consultants, specialists who are enthusiastic about the mission with a view to a more integrated reflection on the whole national territory to serve as a base for the regions. Missionary Animation: should promote missionary events and publicity/missionary councils; produce pedagogical material for the life and strengthening of missionary councils at regional, diocesan and parish levels. Mission Ad Gentes: should update the Church-Sisters and Ad Gentes projects; produce dissemination and support material; identify ways to follow missionaries who arrive, stay and leave for the mission.
Prophetic - social commitment: will have to find a way to approach the social pastoral; promote the awareness of missionaries about the Social Doctrine of the Church; set up a more in-depth dialogue with the Bishops' Conference of the Amazon and CIMI; solicit commitment and greater awareness of the environmental issue. Sustainability: will have to think creatively about human and economic resources for missionary projects. Popular Missions: will have to collect experiences from different popular mission methodologies and organize the Third National Seminar of Popular Missions. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 21/11/2020)
