AFRICA/DR CONGO - More than one hundred young people confirmed in a parish of Kinshasa sent as "missionaries in the suburbs"

Wednesday, 21 October 2020 world mission day

Kinshasa (Agenzia Fides) - "What God expects from each of us is a true and sincere willingness to go on a mission. Everyone must say to God today: here I am Lord, send me. In addition to our availability, it is also our responsibility to support the work of the Church's mission", exhorted His Eminence Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo, Metropolitan Archbishop of Kinshasa, on October 18, World Mission Day, in the Parish of Notre Dame de Fatima in Kinshasa, where he was on a pastoral visit.
During the Mass, Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo conferred the sacrament of Confirmation on more than 100 people; young people who respond to the call to be missionaries. He was assisted by His Exc. Mgr. Ernest Ngboko, Archbishop of Mbandaka-Bikoro, who was staying in Kinshasa.
Entrusted to the Missionaries of the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Our Lady of Fatima is a missionary parish in her vision. She intends to support the start of a new mission on the outskirts of Kinshasa. At the beginning of the Mass, a special prayer intention was formulated by parish priest Fr. Michel Ekonzo: "Let us pray so that the Lord will fulfill our ardent desire to go to the suburbs to found a new mission in favor of our brothers and sisters in Menkao 2, on the Bateke plateau".
It was the Archbishop of Kinshasa's first pastoral visit to this parish and his first outing after the Holy Father appointed him a member of the college of Cardinals. (P.M.P.) (Agenzia Fides, 21/10/2020)
