Cairo (Agenzia Fides) - Spokespersons of the Coptic Orthodox Church and the Coptic Catholic Church have both expressed concern about the growing spread of volumes distributed free of charge among the population, characterized by titles that recall the Gospel or the Bible, but whose contents appear totally incompatible with the truths of faith reported in the Old and New Testaments.
Coptic Orthodox priest Boutros Halim, spokesman for the Coptic Orthodox Church, denounced the growing spread of deceptive books, which seek to attract the reader's attention by inserting on the cover the title "Authentic Gospel of Christ", asking the competent authorities to intervene in order to block the spread of these works aimed at confusing believers and creating further points of social tension. Father Halim also invited everyone to choose Bibles and Gospels printed and distributed by authorized publishing companies, such as the House of the Bible.
The spokesman for the Coptic Orthodox Church denounced the massive dissemination of texts through digital social networks, which behind mystical titles hide real counterfeits of biblical texts and the Gospels. Some of these texts, in particular, pass themselves off as "authentic" versions of the "doctrine of the apostles", or propose themselves as "mystical readings" of the Gospel of John. Similar warnings have also recently been expressed by the Coptic Catholic Bishop Hani Bakhoum Kiroulos, at the head of communications for the Coptic Catholic Church. (GV) (Agenzia Fides, 16/7/2020)
