AMERICA/BOLIVIA - Appointment of the National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies, His Exc. Mgr. Waldo Ruben Barrionuevo Ramirez

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On February 27, 2020 Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed His Exc. Mgr. Waldo Ruben Barrionuevo Ramirez, CSsR, Apostolic Vicar of Reyes as National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Bolivia, for a five-year period (2020-2025).
The new National Director was born on 9 September 1967 in Oruro in Bolivia. In 1989 he entered the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (CSsR). He made his temporary profession on February 2, 1992 and his solemn profession on March 25, 1996. He completed his philosophical and theological studies at the Seminary of Cochabamba, and was ordained a priest on October 25, 1997. Since his priestly ordination he has held the following roles : 1997-2000: Member of the mission team in Santa Cruz de la Sierra and Extraordinary Councilor of the Province; 2000-2004: Collaborator of the Master of Novices in Oruro; 2004-2006: Provincial Vicar and Master of Novices (in 2006 he renounced the position); 2007-2009: Parish priest of Nuestra Señora de La Paz in Cochabamba; 2009-2010: Superior of the missionary team in Santa Cruz de la Sierra; since 2010: Student of the Collegio Maggiore for priests of the Congregation of SS. Redeemer and student in Rome, at the Pontifical Gregorian University.
On 15 February 2014, Holy Father Francis appointed him Auxiliary of the Apostolic Vicariate of Reyes, he received episcopal consecration on 14 May 2014, and on 1 June 2019 appointed him Apostolic Vicar of Reyes. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 1/7/2020)
