Belo Horizonte (Agenzia Fides) - "Christian spirituality in a time of pandemic" was the topic of reflection by Portuguese Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça, Archivist and Librarian of the Vatican Apostolic Archive, who inaugurated the cycle of "Online Dialogues of pastoral theology", promoted by the Jesuit Faculty of Philosophy and Theology (Faje) of Belo Horizonte.
The purpose, underlines the note issued by the Episcopal Conference (CNBB) sent to Fides, is to contribute to discernment on the main challenges and tasks of pastoral care and evangelization in Brazil. The seven meetings scheduled monthly, led by authoritative speakers, therefore intend to arouse reflection on the pastoral work of the Catholic Church in the current urban context, "fragmented and pluralistic in Brazil". For this reason, the speakers will gather "the lessons learned from the rich tradition of post-conciliar pastoral care, letting themselves be questioned by the new questions raised by the present moment, especially in this period of social isolation and pandemic".
The Auxiliary Bishop of Belo Horizonte and President of the Episcopal Commission for Communication of the CNBB, Mgr. Joaquim Giovani Mol Guimarães, will speak in the debate scheduled for August, talking about the prospects of the Church in the post-pandemic. Also the Auxiliary Bishop in the same archdiocese and member of the CNBB Commission for Integral Ecology, Mgr. Vicente Ferreira, will participate on the theme "Pastoral Care in the Villages and Favelas". Other experts will address the topics "Virtualization of the faith?"; "Digital mediation and religious experience in urban contexts"; "Churches and socio-environmental conflicts" and "Evangelization and popular movements".
