AMERICA/EL SALVADOR - The Archbishop of San Salvador for Corpus Domini: "Life is precious and we must protect it"

San Salvador (Agenzia Fides) - On the solemnity of Corpus Domini, Mgr. José Luis Escobar Alas, Archbishop of San Salvador, underlined in a statement sent to Fides, that the care of human life should continue to be essential during this pandemic and, above all, in these days when the government proposes economic recovery. The Archbishop described how worrying that there is no national emergency law now that many people will return to work. He called on employers to provide the necessary resources to ensure workers' health.
"Life is precious and we need to protect it", he reiterated. "In this moment of high community contagion, it is necessary for everyone to take care of their health responsibly, to live freely in the family quarantine, to leave their home only if necessary. Let us take care of our family, above all adults and the elderly and implement all health security measures".
Mgr. Escobar Alas expressed his gratitude towards Cardinal Gregorio Rosa Chávez for the valuable contribution he made, and continues to give, to the country, regretting that in recent days he has been attacked on social networks for some opinions expressed.
In El Salvador, according to official data 3,603 people have been tested positive to COVID-19, and 72 people have died so far. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 15/6/2020)
