Cusco (Agenzia Fides) - "We joyfully announce the Gospel of the family": this is the title of the Pastoral Letter of the Archbishop of Cusco, Mgr. Richard Alarcón, while his archdiocese celebrates "The Missionary Year of the Family" in 2020. For this reason, the Archbishop proposes a profound reflection on Christian family and presents pastoral concerns, hopes and perspectives "to make our families a living Gospel of the love of God".
In the pastoral Letter, published amid a health crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic, Mgr. Alarcón comments on the importance of spending time with the family, which for many people meant rediscovering "the beauty of family life" and for others it was "like a thermometer to measure the extent to which the love and commitment of parents, children and family members are really present".
As highlighted in the note sent to Fides, the document also mentions how painful the loss of a loved one due to COVID-19 was for some families, recalling the consequences that the virus has brought with it, such as economic crisis and unemployment. The letter also points out how solidarity has awakened "to support and help each other".
"This moment should help us become aware of the lessons that this pandemic is leaving us", says the Archbishop of Cusco, trying to indicate a new future for families, communities, the whole nation. "At the same time - he concludes - after the pandemic and social isolation we must show and live a renewed model of family life", capable of indicating a virtuous and widespread change in society.
