Madrid (Agenzia Fides) - "Pauline is a gift for the Church" says Don José María Calderón, National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) of Spain in a message sent to Fides, in which he comments the publication of the Decree that opens the way to the beatification of Pauline Marie Jaricot Foundress of the "Council of the Propagation of the Faith" and of the "Living Rosary" (see Fides, 27/5/2020).
"In his message to the PMS on Thursday 21 May - continues the National Director -, Pope Francis highlighted that mission must not seek self-promotion, but discretion and service: it seems that he spoke of the foundress of the most important Pontifical Missionary Society: the Propagation of the Faith!". Don José María Calderón underlines: "Pauline Jaricot went unnoticed in her time, despite being the most effective promoter of love for the mission and of helping the missionaries. The miracle that the Church now recognizes will contribute to enhancing the precious spirituality that she lived and transmitted".
The note refers to the circumstances of the miracle through the intercession of Pauline Jaricot. The miracle approved by Pope Francis' decree occurred in 2012, on the 150th anniversary of Pauline's birth. Little three-year-old Mayline Tran lost consciousness. The little girl, hospitalized in a desperate state after suffocation and a 20-minute cardiovascular arrest, was considered dead. Despite the suspension of medical treatment, the family refused to stop artificial life assistance. A novena to Pauline Jaricot was begun. Shortly thereafter, the girl woke up, but with brain damage. However, against all hope, she completely healed. The healing was submitted to the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Lyon, which examined the case from 20 July 2018 to 28 February 2019. Its conclusions were sent to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. The medical commission then validated the inexplicable nature of the healing. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 1/6/2020)
