Lima (Agenzia Fides) - The situation of the health emergency in Peru is taking unexpected dimensions despite the measures established by the authorities and the extension of isolation until 30 June. In Peru there are now 120,000 positive cases of Covid-19 with 3,456 deaths.
The Peruvian Episcopal Conference (CEP), under the guidance of its President, Archbishop Miguel Cabrejos of Trujillo, told the press yesterday evening that the Church's organizational structures across the country will be put at the service of the state to assist the poorest in this social health emergency: "we are talking about 47 ecclesiastical jurisdictions in Peru, 1538 parishes, movements, Caritas present in the 47 ecclesiastical jurisdictions, welfare centers, educational centers, etc. throughout the national territory", said Mgr. Cabrejos .
The President of CEP also recalled that the "Solidarity - Zero Hunger" program continues, which provides food aid to the poorest families, as well as assistance carried out together with the State, in the face of this economic and social lockdown to deal with the health emergency.
