German publisher Herder presents new theological commentary on the Documents of the Second Vatican Council: historical elaboration and reception

Vatican City (Fides Service) - On 7 December 2005 the German publishing house Herder released the fifth and final volume of its Herder’s Theological Commentary on Vatican II “Herders Theologischer Kommentar zum Zweiten Vatikanischen Konzil”. The work, the fruit of seven years of labour by Peter Hünermann and Bernd Jochen Hilberath and seven colleagues, takes into account both the historical elaboration and the reception of the Council documents.
The work will be officially presented in Rome on 23 February at the Teutonic College situated close to St Peter's inside Vatican City. Present for the occasion the publisher Manuel Herder, the rector of the Teutonic College Mgr Erwin Gatz and Bishop Gebhard Fürst of the diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart. An introduction to the Commentary will be given by Prof. Peter Hünermann who teaches at the Catholic University of Tubingen, the Commentary's ecumenical perspective will be illustrated by German Cardinal Walter Kasper president of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity. Lastly Prof. Elmar Salmann OSB of the Benedictine community in Rome will speak of the hermeneutic approach and ecclesiological orientation. (MS) (Agenzia Fides 23/02/2006 - 17 righe, 192 parole)
