OCEANIA/PAPUA NEW GUINEA - Appointment of the National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies, Fr. Victor Roche, SVD

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On January 1, 2020 Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed Fr. Victor Roche, SVD National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS), in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands for five years (1/1/2020-31/ 12/2024).
The new National Director was born on February 16, 1952 in Palayam (India). He entered the Verbites in 1965 and professed his first vows in 1972 in Pune (India), his perpetual vows in 1979, and was ordained a priest on April 20, 1980 in Trichy (India). He studied philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Seminary in Pune, then graduated at the Franciscan University of Stevenville (USA). He also followed a biblical course (1993) and a radio course (2008). After his ordination in Papua New Guinea he was vice-parish priest and parish priest in different parishes of the diocese of Wewak, Secretary of the SVD missions, then he carried out biblical and radio apostolate.
