Warsaw (Agenzia Fides) - Responding to the appeal of the Holy Father to create an international emergency fund to help the populations of mission territories affected by the Covid 19 pandemic (see Fides, 6/4/2020), the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) of Poland have launched a special fundraiser through an ad available on YouTube channel.
As the National PMS Direction of Poland points out in the statement sent to Fides, the needs of the missions to coordinate the spiritual and material assistance given to people affected by coronavirus are enormous. This assistance is particularly dedicated to the poorest, in areas where healthcare has not yet arrived or is poorly structured. All the funds raised will be delivered to the Pope who will support the needy from all over the world as needed. The mission territories, in which more than 2,000 Polish missionaries operate, are the ones that suffer the most during each epidemic, as in the case of Ebola, Sars, typhus ... "The coronavirus quickly crosses national and continental borders. Therefore, our help - through the PMS - must reach the ends of the world even faster", urges the text, recalling that through works of mercy, the Church shows that it is a large community of people who love each other in the name of Jesus.
In the video, the National Director of the PMS, Mgr. Tomasz Atlas, presents the work of the missionaries in the world, recalls the words of Pope Francis on the reality of the Pontifical Mission Societies, while some missionaries give their testimony. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 27/4/2020)
