EUROPE/ITALY - Luca De Mata passes away, Director of Fides for 7 years

Rome (Agenzia Fides) - Luca De Mata, Director of Agenzia Fides from May 2002, when he took over from Father Bernardo Cervellera, PIME, until September 2009, concluding his mandate for reaching age limits, passed away in past days.
Journalist, director, author of television investigations, Professor at the faculty of architecture, consultant and creator of various multimedia communication projects, De Mata came to the direction of Fides after the experience of Head of the Internet Office of the Central Committee of the Great Jubilee of the Year 2000 and other positions held within the Holy See. Continuing in the line traced by his predecessors, he undertook to give a further boost to the spread of Fides news through the internet and other multimedia tools, also launching the study for the Arabic language edition.
Of those years, to be highlighted the great investigative programs for Rai, collecting testimonies and interviews on all continents, with the supervision of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, of the Congregation for the Clergy, of the Pontifical Council for Cultural Heritage: “Christ in the cold of the East” (2002) dedicated to the persecutions suffered by Catholics in Eastern European countries; "Ten Commandments - The Courage to Love!" (2004); "God peace or dominion" (2007) on the relationship between religions for peace and coexistence of peoples; "History of the Catholic Church - That day in Nazareth" (2008); "The suitcase with string" (2009) on the theme of emigration.
