Asuncion (Agenzia Fides) - Solidarity, spiritual closeness and prayers for the dramatic situation underway due to the terrible consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic: this is what the Bishops of Paraguay express in a letter to the presidents of the Episcopal Conferences of Italy, the United States and Ecuador.
The letter sent to Fides says: "The Church and the people of Paraguay have united in prayer with Pope Francis, with the conviction that we are in the same boat in the middle of the storm, fragile and fearful, but called to row together as brothers, with full confidence in the infinite mercy of God".
The letter is addressed to Cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti, archbishop of Perugia and president of the Italian Episcopal Conference; Archbishop José Horacio Gómez of Los Angeles and President of the Episcopal Conference of the Catholic Bishops of the United States; Mgr Eugenio Arrellano Fernández, bishop apostolic vicar of Esmeraldas and President of the Episcopal Conference of Ecuador.
"Even in our country we continue to endure the progress of the spread of the disease with uncertainty and suffering and we offer prayers to the Lord God, from different corners of the nation to end this pandemic", write the Bishops.
The gesture of solidarity of the Catholic Church was spread in Paraguay through social networks and made people aware of the importance of the precautions necessary to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the country. Paraguay is one of the countries in the area that has the lowest number of coronavirus cases: 206 virus positive cases and 8 deaths. The country is however in quarantine.
