EUROPE/ITALY - Medical Passport 2006. One million copies distributed to Italian travellers

Tuesday, 21 February 2006

Rome (Agenzia Fides) - Human mobility is characteristic of our times. According to the World Organisation for Tourism there are over 600 million international travellers in the world today. International travel inevitable involves health risks particularly for people who visit developing countries where climatic, environmental and sanitary conditions are totally different from what they are used to.
The Medical Passport contains information on the traveller’s health: blood group, allergies, past illnesses and medicines being used. The medical passport may be used at the discretion of the traveller or by health personnel to ensure adequate treatment in case of emergency. It has three parts: traveller’s identity and persons to inform in an emergency; the medical details mentioned above; some basic advice for the traveller.
The Medical Passport provides medical staff in a foreign country with the information necessary to make an accurate diagnosis and start the right therapy.
The press conference will be held on Wednesday 22 February 2006 at ENPAM offices in Rome. (AP) (21/2/2006 Agenzia Fides; Righe:23; Parole:248)
