Rome (Agenzia Fides) - "Now more than ever, maximum discretion is needed, in order not to jeopardize the work carried out so far". Authoritative Fides sources urge the utmost confidentiality and delicacy in dealing with the news, released yesterday by all the media, on the video that portrays Father Luigi Maccalli alive, a priest of the Society for African Missions (SMA) kidnapped in Niger in September 2018 (see Fides, 6/4/2020) and still in the hands of kidnappers. The invitation, addressed in particular to the organs of the international press, is not to feed speculations and "rumors", not to create false alarmism, but to simply wait confidently. "Maximum confidentiality is required from all the press bodies in the exclusive interest of compatriots", specifies the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is following the case. Fides sources agree, expressing trust and hope that the whole affair has a positive outcome. (AP) (Agenzia Fides, 7/4/2020)
