Hong Kong (Fides Service) - Over 60 group leaders of the Hong Kong delegation of participants to the next Asia Youth Day 30 July 5 August 2006 received a mandate from the Bishop of Hong Kong Bishop Joseph Zen honorary chairman of the AYD Commission, to share the experience of the faith and reflect on the theme of the family. According to Hong Kong’s diocesan bulletin Kong Ko Bao the mandate was given at the end of a special Mass in Hong Kong cathedral on 13 February. The group leaders have just completed a five month course on the faith and spirituality started in October. From April to June as the Day approaches there will be another course of formation.
Hong Kong diocese, which has the honour of hosting this 4th Asian Youth Day on the theme “Hope for the Asian Family”, has launched various initiatives in preparation. Young participants expected to come from all over Asia will be hosted by 100 families and 50 parishes. The AYD organising committee organised a seminar at St Stephen’s parish to discuss hospitality. Bishop Zen called for everyone to work hard to ensure one hundred percent success. Recently 14 delegates from different Asian countries, Japan, South Korea, Philippines, Macao and Taiwan and Turkmenistan met to discuss the planned events: workshop, seminars, spectacles, exhibition, dialogue between religions and cultures. The organising committee has launched a competition for the day’s logo and hymn which should be suitable for a youth event. (Agenzia Fides 20/02/2006 Righe: 31 Parole: 357)
