Abidjan (Agenzia Fides) - "I ask parishioners not to give in to discouragement, not to be afraid, to keep hope on this Sunday of joy. I ask them to always remain vigilant and to remain in prayer", said Fr. Alain Lézou, parish priest of Notre Dame des Douleurs in Yopougon Niangon Lokoa, Ivory Coast, where in some dioceses the community celebration of mass was suspended for at least two weeks.
"A Sunday without mass, a difficult situation for the faithful to endure", a parishioner tells Fides. "It is difficult to bear because mass is the culmination of a Catholic's life. When there is no mass, we orient ourselves to family prayer as we are doing".
The dioceses where the masses were suspended are those of Yopougon, Agboville, Katiola and Abidjan. In a letter addressed to pastoral workers (priests, religious, laity) of the respective dioceses, the Bishops recommend that the faithful continue to ask for masses which the priests will celebrate in private form. The bishops of these dioceses have also arranged to expose the Blessed Sacrament every day to the adoration of the people of God for permanent adoration. (S.S.) (Agenzia Fides, 23/3/2020)
