Caracas (Agenzia Fides) – With regards to the critical situation caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, Venezuela, a country affected by poverty, suffers and feels that it will not be spared. The church in Venezuela, which until now has been very close to the weakest, wants to express a word of closeness, hope and courage.
"The work of priests, that of visiting the sick, in hospitals or wherever they are, is a task that committed priests and lay people are willing to continue to do, taking all the necessary precautions", said metropolitan Archbishop of Mérida and apostolic administrator of Caracas, Cardinal Baltazar Porras.
The Cardinal, who spoke yesterday to the community in the capital, wanted to address his message to the national community and added that "we cannot stop serving those who need it most", while asking to put political and ideological differences aside, "these things cannot be done by a single sector, we need to work in a multidisciplinary way, and it is hoped that an operational committee can be formed that includes authorities and experts".
Also through his Twitter account, Cardinal Porras added: "Let us help each other and not only worry about ourselves, we must also think of those who need it most, the poor and excluded. We deeply appreciate the interest, the vocation to the service and professionalism of those involved in healthcare". (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 16/3/2020)
