Istanbul (Agenzia Fides) – «Our Church has had and still has respect for medical science», and for what concerns the emergency of Coronavirus pandemic «urges the faithful to respect both the directives coming from the World Health Organisation and the recommendations and legal dispositions of the single States». These are some of the information contained in the statement published by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople at the end of the Holy Synod session held on Wednesday, March 11, in the patriarchal see at the Phanar, under the presidency of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartolomeo, with the aim of providing practical and pastoral information about the global medical emergency represented by the diffusion of Covid-19 infections.
«The Great Church of Christ» as you can read in the statement released by the Patriarchate official channels «knows from experience that the divine Communion is a “medicine for immortality”, and this concept persists in the orthodox doctrine about the Holy Eucharist». More, « it goes without saying that the faith in God, as transcendence and not as abolition of the human logic, as well as the prayer, empowers the spiritual fight of Christianism. As a consequence, the Mother Church of Constantinople encourages its spiritual children all over the world to intensify the prayers, so that this challenge of the present day can be overcome, thanks to the hep and the light offered by God».
