VATICAN - Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe starts pastoral visit to Sudan

Friday, 17 February 2006

Vatican City (Fides Service) - The Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe has departed for a pastoral visit to Sudan. After a pastoral visit last November to Vietnam, when he visited three ecclesiastical regions, had meetings with bishops, priests, religious and seminarians and presided the inauguration of the new diocese of Ba Ria and the ordination of 57 new priests, the Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples is now on his way to Sudan a country still struggling to establish peaceful coexistence between its peoples of different ethnic origin, religion and culture. Some pockets of tension still exist, but not lacking are signs of hope which need to be encouraged and sustained. This is the reason for which Cardinal Sepe is visiting this war torn nation, to encourage the local Church and the missionaries in the work of promoting human development and spreading the Gospel.
