ASIA/HONG KONG - 4th Asian Youth Day draws near important appointment for young people in Asia

Hong Kong (Fides Service) - Preparations continue for the 4th Asian Youth Day in Hong Kong, 30 July 5 August 2006 on the theme “Hope for Asian Families”. In Hong Kong diocese pastoral councils, groups, parishes are planning events for the Rally sponsored by the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conference FABC.
Delegates of 14 countries, including Japan, South Korea, Philippines, Macao and Taiwan and fir the first time Turkmenistan attended a recent meeting in Hong Kong presided by FABC delegate Mgr Rolando Tria-Tirona. In three days of reflection and planning the delegates highlighted the potential of young people and settled details of the various events.
This 4th Asian Youth Day is expected to draw larger crowds than the previous editions also because the enthusiasm and memories of WYD 2005 in Cologne Germany are still vivid. Moreover Hong Kong is accessible for all Asian youth. The organisers are preparing to accommodate 1,100 participants 600 young people from other Asian countries and about 500 local youths.
