Port Moresby (Agenzia Fides) - The Daughters of Mary Immaculate Sisters (DMI) are seriously committed to promoting the life of women in Port Moresby. Over the past year, women religious have carried out projects to improve women's skills in various sectors, creating self-help groups that take care of women's needs on a human, social and spiritual level. "To foster and instill a healthy relationship with God, we want to inspire women and children to pray the rosary every day with their families and to pray regularly", say the nuns. To this end, in recent months, the DMI have involved women in the pastoral ministry of communities, distributing rosaries and statues to these groups, blessed by the Archbishop of Port Moresby, Cardinal John Ribat MSC. "We try to encourage and prepare families to meet Christ Jesus", reads the note sent to Agenzia Fides.
Alongside the spiritual accompaniment, there is a lack of material aid: on January 28, Archbishop Mathew Vayalunkal, Apostolic Nuncio of Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, donated 6 10kg bags of rice. The nuns purchased another fifty to distribute to the thirty self-help groups in the areas of Korobosea, Kaugere, Kogeva, Sabama and Joyce Bay.
Currently, the religious are raising funds to celebrate International Women's Day on March 8th, seen as an opportunity to reaffirm the profound and inalienable dignity of every woman. This involvement also leads women to improve their role in families. (AP) (Agenzia Fides, 13/2/2020)
