Kolowaré (Agenzia Fides) - "God sends his Word which enters our hearts. This Word invites us to meet others and listen to their existence, find time to talk, recognize, with contemplative eyes, the presence and action of God in their lives ..." On January 26 the faithful celebrated the "Sunday of the Word of God" in the village of Kolowarè.
Father Silvano Galli, priest of the Society for African Missions, told Fides how the population approached this moment strongly desired by Pope Francis. "On Sunday, January 26 we prepared the altar of our church with two tables and in front of us we placed a large Bible surrounded by decorations and lights as well as a large candle to symbolize that it is this Word that illuminates and nourishes together with the bread of the Eucharist".
"In addition - adds the missionary - on the last Sunday of January, World Day of leprosy patients is also celebrated and, every year, here in Kolowaré we celebrate together with our patients. In the homily I wanted to put them at the center of attention and remember all those who have always taken care of them so far: the nuns of Our Lady of the Apostles who have been taking care of them since 1944. In 1958 there were 800, now most of the old people have died, and there are about thirty of them left", concludes Fr. Galli. (SG/AP) (Agenzia Fides, 30/1/2020)
