Rome (Fides Service) - Thanks to St John of God Hospital Brothers Association for Distant Patients and the Bambino Gesu Children’s Hospital, Kamaldine little boy from Benin not yet two years old suffering from a heart condition and malaria, other infections and neurological problems is out of danger and back in his own country.
He and two other children with congenital cardiopathy were brought to Italy in June 2005 and admitted in very serious conditions to San Pietro St John of God Hospital in Rome. Besides the heart condition Kamaldine had malaria, various other infections and serious neurological problems. All three children in need of heart surgery were admitted Bambin Gesù Hospital for the operation.
After a successful operation, intensive care and rehabilitation Kamaldine, now out of danger, has gone home to Benin where he will be taken to St John of God Hospital in Tanguiéta for regular check up examinations.
“When we realised that the children’s heart conditions were serious - says Brother Gerardo D’Auria, director of San Pietro St John of God Hospital a member of the team of volunteers on a humanitarian mission to Benin - we decided the only solution was to arrange for them to travel to Italy and be treated at our San Pietro St John of God Hospital while waiting for the opportunity for the necessary surgery.” (AP) (14/2/2006 Agenzia Fides; Righe:24; Parole:271)
