Abidjan (Agenzia Fides) - "Every year, the Pontifical Mission Societies celebrate World Missionary Childhood Day at Epiphany so that children within the Church feel part of the Church and missionaries.
In order to prepare this day at a national level we wanted to organize a children's choir competition and a missionary piggy bank", said Fr. Jean Noel Gossou, National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in the Ivory Coast.
The singing competition on the theme "Singing the mission", as requested by the International Secretariat of the Holy Childhood in Rome, and part of the celebration of the Extraordinary Missionary Month "falls within the context of what we can call Starsingers, an activity of the PMS that today is about thirty years old". The Starsingers is an activity that involves children on the day of the Epiphany in going from house to house to bring the good news of the birth of Christ to other children", recalls Fr. Gossou.
To help the children of Mozambique who were hit by the flood in March 2019, a missionary piggy bank was set up": all children in the Ivory Coast in their respective parishes are invited to save 5 CFA francs or 0.0076 euros, from their snacks every day from December 1st to December 31st 2019.
