AFRICA/TANZANIA - New rector appointed for St. Paul the Apostle major seminary in Tabora

Vatican City (Fides Service) - Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples on 30 January 2006 appointed rector of St Paulthe Apostle’s Major Seminary in the archdiocese of Tabora (Tanzania), Rev. Solomon Bandiho of the diocesan clergy of Bukoba.
The new rector was born in the diocese of Bukoba on 5 February 1965. From 1980 to 1983 he studied at the Franciscan Seminary MAUA, and from 1984 to 1986 minor diocesan Seminary of Bukoba RUBYA. He studied philosophy at St. Anthony di Ntungamo seminary, Bukoba (1987/89) and theology at St Paul’s Seminary Kipalapala, Tabora (1989/1994). He concluded his studies at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome and was ordained a priest for the diocese of Bukoba on 19 July 1994. He has since ministered in parishes, as a teacher and formator at St. Mary’s Seminary Bukoba, Kibosho Philosophical Seminary and St. Paul’s Senior Seminary di Kipalapala. He was appointed vice rector of the latter in 2003. Between 2000/2002 he studied dogmatic theology at the East Africa Catholic University in Nairobi, Kenya. (S.L.)
