Abidjan (Agenzia Fides) - The current Ivorian political atmosphere fears a dark future for the Ivory Coast. "The spectre of yet another war hangs, unfortunately, over this earth", explains Fr. Donald Zagore, Ivorian theologian of the Society for African Missions.
With the approaching of the presidential elections of 2020 (see Fides, 12/7/2019), everything indicates that we are heading towards elections that are anything but peaceful.
"In fact - continues Zagore - with the approval and non-consensual establishment of the Ivorian Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) it is irresponsible not to worry about what can happen by putting aside the main opposition parties, favoring a culture of illegality, violence and criminality that is increasingly characterizing Ivorian society".
"The tragic reality is that, even if in words we strive to preach peace, our actions reveal injustice, division, exclusion, autocracy and everything that foreshadows a war. Tomorrow's peace must be built today. We must be aware of this fundamental reality", insists Fr. Donald a few days after the appointment of the President of the IEC of the Ivory Coast, judge Coulibaly Kuibiert Ibrahime.
"Tears, blood, death, we no longer want them on our earth. Therefore, since there is still time, it is better to be safe than sorry", he concludes.
