Macao (Agenzia Fides) - The Claretian priests in the Diocese of Macao have begun to spread copies of the Gospels among non-Christians, encouraging reading, reflection and confrontation, on the occasion of the Extraordinary Missionary Month of October 2019. Members of the "Congregation of the Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary", founded by Saint Anthony Mary Claret, called "Claretians", "are committed to promoting knowledge, reading and sharing of the Holy Scripture and intend to strengthen the movement of spreading the Gospel, to share with others", says Fr. Jojo Peter Ancheril, a Claretian missionary from Macao.
"How is the whole Church invited to promote evangelization on the occasion of the Extraordinary Missionary Month? We have chosen a very simple solution, a starting point: to donate a copy of the four Gospels to non-Christians, encouraging the reading", he says.
The Claretian notes: "Reading the Gospel and the Bible helps guide the conscience and experience of all humanity. The signs of God, like the Scripture, help people in daily life to be aware of the salvation given by Jesus Christ, at the same time the Word of God has the power to touch the heart, the conscience", explains Father Ancheril.
In the Extraordinary Missionary Month, he continues, "the Church launches an "evangelical movement" that aims to reveal to non-Christians the life of Jesus and make them come into contact with the Word of Christ by reading the Gospel, so that they can know the love of God".
The Extraordinary Missionary Month in October 2019 marks the centenary of the Apostolic Letter Maximum Illud issued in 1919 by Pope Benedict XV and has as its theme: "Baptized and sent: the Church of Christ on a mission in the world". The goal is to raise awareness of the "missio ad gentes" and give new impetus to the missionary transformation in the life of the Church. (SD) (Agenzia Fides, 27/9/2019)
