ASIA/PAKISTAN - The new Bishop of Faisalabad consecrated: "Faith in action"

Faisalabad (Agenzia Fides) - With a solemn liturgy held at the Liceo De La Salle in Faisalabad, with the participation of thousands of faithful, Cardinal Joseph Coutts Archbishop of Karachi, presided over the ceremony of consecration of the new Bishop of Faisalabad, diocese in Punjab Pakistani. Newly consecrated Bishop Joseph Indrias Rehmat is the sixth Bishop of Faisalabad. He was a student and then a professor at the Cristo Re Seminary in Karachi, he graduated in Moral Theology and was later appointed Dean of Studies at the Seminary. The celebration in Faisalabad saw the massive participation of priests, religious and lay people from all the parishes of the diocese. The civil and faithful authorities of other religions were also present.
As explained to Fides by Fr. Emmanuel Parvez, parish priest in Faisalabad and master of ceremonies in the solemn liturgy, the episcopal motto chosen by Bishop Indrias Rehmat is "Fides in Actio" and wants to signify, in particular an effort of "collaboration": "It indicates the desire to live the faith in Pakistan not in isolation, but in friendship, solidarity and collaboration with everyone".
In the coat of arms of the new Bishop, he continues, "there is all his pastoral program": "The Holy Cross manifests the character of God who loves, forgives and saves. Then there is the wheat, to symbolize the Eucharist which nourishes every follower of Jesus, the Holy Bible, the Word of God which illuminates the faith of Christians in Pakistan. The symbol of Light reveals the presence of Jesus among the faithful, which is hope for all".
On the occasion of the solemn celebration, the parish of St. Paul the Apostle in Pansara, near Faisalabad, inaugurated a new multi-purpose hall for youth ministry, dedicating it to Cardinal Joseph Coutts. The Cardinal visited and blessed the youth hall, in front of teachers and students of St. Paul High, who welcomed him with joy. (PA) (Agenzia Fides, 14/9/2019)
