Sydney (Agezia Fides) - "The countdown is on with less than 150 days until doors open on the fourth Australian Catholic Youth Festival 2019 (ACYF19) to be held in Perth, 8 to 10 December. It is a celebration of young people and the Church as one body. It will be a living embodiment of Pope Francis’ post synod exhortation, Christus Vivit, where church leaders and young people will come together to share experiences, challenges and joys of life". This is what Malcolm Hart, Director of the Festival dedicated to young Catholics in Australia, says in a note sent to Agenzia Fides.
The three-day event is an initiative of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference, hosted in partnership with the Archdiocese of Perth. "The objective is: to provide high quality educational and experiential opportunity for young Catholics to meet Jesus Christ, in the context of the Church in Australia; listen and discuss the issues and challenges that life poses; evangelize young people and make them in turn capable of being evangelizers", reads the note sent to Fides.
According to the organizers, the event will see the participation of over 5,000 young people from all over the nation and "will explore the Plenary Council 2020 themes as part of the national journey we are on together", says Hart.
The official theme of the Festival is ‘Listen to what the Spirit is Saying’ and will bring together the youngest part of the Church, between 9 to 30 years of age.
"As the Festival draws ever closer the organising committee continue to work hard to ensure this will be a rich experience in which young Australian Catholics can deepen their faith on fertile local soil", but will also offer an opportunity "to focus on the Church in Western Australia and indigenous young people", the note concludes.
