Accra (Agenzia Fides) - Ghanaian youth have called on members of parliament of the republic to turn their minds from building a new parliament Chamber to accommodate over 600 members from the current seating capacity of 270 seats.
This call by the youth of the country came about when the president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo signed an agreement for over 200 million US dollars to construct a new Chamber for the legislature.
The youth are of the strong view that the new chamber is either needful at this present time or misplace of priority or miss use of public funds or another away to rob the country.
The leadership of parliament, both the Majority and Minority have come out stating the reason for this new chamber as Security, Capacity and defect of old building.
"We could redesign the old one however sometimes refurbishing an old building is more expensive than constructing a new one", says Mr. Linus Labik a catholic youth of Accra Archdiocese and a lecturer.
Kwesi Yirenkye Boateng a catholic was of the view that the proposition to build a new parliament house at a cost of over 200 US dollars to the task payer is needless.
The Ghanaian youth are losing their faith in their members of parliament due to low attendance at chamber and high cost of running the institution.
The legislature must be a check on the executive and judiciary vice versa but this is not the case as a lot of corruption goes on check or bad investigation acclaim corrupt leaders as saints. (A.A.) (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides, 8/7/2019)
