Bogotà (Agenzia Fides) - In the context of the preparation for the Missionary Year, organized by the Colombian Bishops' Conference (CEC), inspired by the Extraordinary Missionary Month of October 2019, the Missionary Animation Department of the CEC, in agreement with the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, has established the Diploma in Mission Ad Gentes with 120 hours of lessons on site. This journey of formation saw the participation of a group of 22 missionaries, including priests, seminarians, religious and laity, from different communities and ecclesiastical jurisdictions inside and outside the country.
According to the note sent to Fides by the director of the Mission Animation Department, Fr. Ramiro Antonio Lopez Montoya, the participants were able to update themselves on various topics related to missionary animation: the celebration of the Extraordinary Missionary Month; the mission in the context of the process of evangelization in the various ecclesiastical jurisdictions; the culture of encounter and evangelization in the suburbs; the Synod for the Amazon and the care of the common home; inculturation in globalization; the media and the proclamation of the Gospel; challenges to the mission in today's world...
At the end of the course the participants concretely realized their desire to go to the suburbs to announce Jesus Christ through a visit to some prisons in Bogotá, where they had the opportunity to meet prisoners and bring them the message of the Gospel.
"I am infinitely grateful for the opportunity the Church gives us to form ourselves in this field of mission. For me it was a very enriching experience, and I think it was a great opportunity to prepare the Extraordinary Missionary Month announced by the Holy Father" said Sister Elizabeth Paz, of the Betlhemite Sisters. At the end of the course, on June 22nd, the missionary sending of the 22 participants took place, who returned to their home communities to continue to announce Jesus Christ with new enthusiasm.
