Brasilia (Agenzia Fides) – About forty missiologists from all over Brazil are participating in the National Missiology Seminar, from 10 to 14 June, at the Missionary Cultural Center (CCM), in Brasilia. The theme of the meeting is the same as in the Extraordinary Missionary Month of October 2019, announced by Pope Francis: "Baptized and sent: the Church of Christ on a mission in the world". The organization is taken care of by the Episcopal Pastoral Commission for Missionary Action and Intercultural Cooperation of the Bishops’ Conference (CNBB), in collaboration with the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) and the CCM.
According to information sent to Fides by the PMS National Direction, the objective of the Seminar is to deepen the reflection on the mission, with particular attention to the mission ad gentes, in harmony with the theme of the Extraordinary Missionary Month. It also wants to offer missiologists the opportunity to share knowledge and collaboration in the path of the preparation for this ecclesial event. Finally it wants to solicit the potential of missiologists in Brazil, encouraging them to propose reflections on mission and evangelization.
The Seminar program includes the discussion and in-depth analysis of various topics. Fr. Estevão Raschietti presented the theme "The mission ad gentes and the process of colonization and decolonization". "The mission ad gentes in the teaching of the Church, starting from the II Vatican council "was the theme dealt with by His Exc. Mgr. Vittorino Girardi.
Archbishop Odelir José Magri, president of the Missionary Commission of the CNBB, explained that the Seminar was inserted in the context of the announcement of the Extraordinary Missionary Month, in order to deepen the study of the mission ad gentes, as the missiologists present will be the points of reference of the processes of missionary formation at the level of the 18 Brazilian regions.
