Juba (Agenzia Fides) - "His Holiness Pope Francis kissed the feet of our leaders, as if to say, I am a servant, now you serve your people in South Sudan, this is the true message of Easter" states the Easter message of leader of the Council of Churches of South Sudan, recalling the gesture of Pope Francis who, on April 11 at the conclusion of the spiritual retreat, at Domus Sanctae Marthae in the Vatican, knelt before the political leaders of South Sudan.
In their message, the leaders of the body that brings together the main religious confessions of the Country (His Exc. Mgr. Paulino Lukudu Loro, Archbishop of Juba represented the Catholic Church) urged the South Sudanese to celebrate the feast of the Resurrection of the Lord with sincerity and truth, and to work incessantly for peace.
"The cry of the poor who are hungry and thirsty for justice binds us in conscience and commits us to our ministry. They are the least visible in the eyes of the world, yet precious in the eyes of God. In the national anthem of South Sudan, we promised to protect our nation. The revitalized agreement of the resolution of the conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) is like a vote made to God. We are saying that peace is good; reconciliation is possible; and unity is the best", concludes the message by referring to the agreement signed on September 12 in Addis Ababa by the President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir, and by the rebel leader, former Vice President Riek Machar, to resolve the conflict which broke out in December 2013.
