Bangui (Agenzia Fides) - "I particularly wanted to thank Cardinal Dieudonné Nzapalainga and Imam Layama Kobine for the excellent work they do together to resolve the crisis in the Central African Republic, and in particular to resolve the crisis in Bangassou, where efforts are underway to organize a caravan of peace", said Mankeur Ndiaye, Special Representative of the United Nations in Central Africa and at the head of MINUSCA (UN Mission in the Central African Republic), meeting with His Eminence Cardinal Dieudonné Nzapalainga, Archbishop of Bangui, and Imam Layama Kobine , the two main animators, together with Pastor Nicolas Guerekoyame, of the Platform of Religious Confessions for Peace in Central Africa.
During these meetings, Mankeur Ndiaye addressed the socio-political situation and the overall security of the Country, stressing the need to combine efforts for the progressive implementation of the political agreement of peace and reconciliation, signed in February between the government and the main armed Central Africans groups.
To his interlocutors, the Special Representative wanted to reaffirm the firm commitment and willingness of the United Nations to accompany the Central African Republic, together with other partners, to pursue peace. The meetings in Ndiaye also serve to prepare the meeting of the International Support Group for Central Africa to be held on 17 April 2019 in Bangui, with the participation of about fifty Countries and organizations, to support the implementation of the political agreement on peace and reconciliation.
