Nairobi (Agenzia Fides) - "On behalf of the AMECEA bishops, I urge journalists and Catholic communicators to always tell the truth about the various issues that occur in society; it is their task to make the Good News relevant to modern society". This is what Mgr. Philip Anyolo, president of the Commission for Social Communications of the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) said on the occasion of a training course dedicated to the digital world, just concluded at the Don Bosco Youth Education Service in Nairobi. As Fides learns, the Archbishop stressed to the young people present, who came from various countries in the area, that "in a world where technology is constantly evolving, the Church must be present and prepared to use it for evangelization"
Archbishop Anyolo, who is the Archbishop of Kisumu and is also president of the Bishops' Conference of Kenya (KCCB), recalled that "God is the first communicator. From the beginning, he was in contact with Adam and Eve. Even today God is everywhere, he communicates with humanity in various ways. It is up to us to listen to him". He also stressed that "in the contemporary world, characterized by the growth and spread of information technologies and communication channels, media have an important task also for the Catholic Church: to unite the Church to the world, so as to make the spread of the Gospel possible", the Archbishop said.
To this end, Mgr. Anyolo invited Catholic journalists to be "professional and creative", to "pay maximum attention in providing truthful information", and also "to collaborate with pastoral agents in gathering and sharing information through the media", so as to communicate the authentic face of the local Churches.
