Hong Kong (Fides Services) - Already 100 families in 33 different parishes in the diocese of Hong Kong have offered to accommodate participants at the next Asian Youth Day to be held in Hong Kong 30 July 5 August 2006 on the theme ‘Hope for Asian Families’.
According the Hong Kong diocesan bulletin Kong Ko Bao in preparation for this major event for Catholics in Asia, youth pastoral workers and members of the diocesan commission for youth pastoral are co-ordinating work to organise accommodation for the participants, plan events and choose themes.
Lay Catholic John Sin, a member of the Commission, said: “this will be the fourth Asian Youth Day and we expect about 500 young people from Hong Kong and another 500 from other Asian countries. This is an important event which we are proud to host because we want to intensify and improve our youth pastoral and encourage young and adult parishioners to work together in parish activity to help young people play their role in the life of the Church and in the mission to evangelise”. Mr Sin added that the hosting families have an important task: “to show hospitality and brotherhood on the part of Hong Kong and the Christian community here”.
The organisers say numbers of participants will probably rise as the even approaches and also following enthusiasm for the last World Youth Day held August 2005 in Germany. (Agenzia Fides 23/01/2006 Righe: 24 Parole: 240)
