AMERICA/MEXICO - Promote inculturation of the Gospel in multicultural societies: goal of 3rd national congress on “Migration, multi-culturality and pastoral of culture"

Mexico City (Fides Service) - The Mexican Bishops’ Commission for Culture has organised the 3rd National Culture Congress on the theme “Migration, multi-culturality and pastoral of culture” 24 to 26 January at the Fray Bartolomé de las Casas Auditorium at the International University. The purpose of the Congress is to increase awareness and pastoral efforts to address the vast phenomenon of migration and emerging multi-cultural societies, in view of inculturation of the Gospel. The Congress is for diocesan delegates for pastoral care of culture and pastoral care of migrants, for individuals and groups interested in dialogue between faith and culture and people who work with migrants and in universities.
Among those present at the Congress Cardinal Norberto Rivera Carrera Archbishop Primate of Mexico and president of the Mexican Bishops’ Commission for Culture, and Cardinal Paul Poupard, President of the Pontifical Council for Culture who will give three conferences: “Migration and emigrants in times of globalisation”, “Multiculturality, challenge and opportunity” and “Pastoral of culture and the challenges of multi-cultural societies”. Other conferences will include: “towards an ecclesiology of migration” (Robert Schreiter Nijmegen University, Holland); “Israel, country of emigrants par excellence” (Prof. Meir Bunytow Damsky); “Discovering and serving Christ in the emigrant” (Archbishop Rosendo Huesca Pacheco of Puebla de los Ángeles); “Multiculturality and interculturality, situations and challenges for the Church in Mexico” (Dott.
