Managua (Agenzia Fides) - "Today, Wednesday, March 20, 2019, thanks to the work of the Apostolic Nuncio, as witness and supporter of the dialogue, and of the envoy of the Secretary-General of the Organization of American States (OSA), negotiations of the national dialogue has resumed. This was stated in a joint statement by the government and the opposition, sent to Agenzia Fides after the press conference during which the Nuncio, Msgr. Waldemar Stanislaw Sommertag, read the agenda.
In the text, the two parties communicate the commitment formally assumed by the government to release within a maximum of ninety days all the persons arrested "in the context of events that occurred after April 18, 2018", ie those who are considered political prisoners by the opposition and from the international community. The decision was taken in order to unblock the impasse of recent days and allowed two other steps in the dialogue process: the joint formal request of an OAS mediator and the agreement for the immediate work of the bipartisan table for electoral reform. The session also agreed on the resumption of the work according to a roadmap including four other points, and it was decided to request the collaboration of the Red Cross at the dialogue table in order to put into effect the release of the prisoners.
