AMERICA/BOLIVIA - Appointment of the Apostolic Vicar of Camiri

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Francis has appointed Fr. Jesús Galeote Tormo, O.F.M., currently Apostolic Administrator "sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis" of the same Vicariate as Apostolic Vicar of Camiri (Bolivia).
The Rev. Father Jesús Galeote Tormo, O.F.M., was born in Madrid, Spain, on September 21, 1951. He studied Philosophy in Toledo (Spain) and Theology at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum). He then obtained a Licentiate in Moral Theology at the Alphonsian Academy (1974-1976). He graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Salamanca, Spain (1978-1984), with further specialization studies (1990-1991). He attended some courses for a Doctorate in Missionology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (1993-1994 and 2013-2014). He was ordained a priest on September 5, 1976.
Since his ordination he has held the following positions: 1976-1986: Head of Youth Ministry, professor of religion and parish Vicar, Ávila, Spain; 1986-1993: Director of the San Antonio de Lomerío Hospital, Department of Santa Cruz; 1993-2006: Parish priest of San Javier and Head of Center Kolping San Javier for the indigenous ministry, Archdiocese of Santa Cruz de la Sierra; 2006-2008: Pastoral service in the Diocese of Chiang Mai, Thailand, in the Parish of Mae Chaem; 2008-2010: Pastoral service in the Parish of "Chian Saen", Chiang Rai Province, working with ethnic and migrant groups, Thailand; 2010-2015: Parish priest of the Our Lady of the Rosary Parish in Prachuap Khirikhan, and a member of the formation group of the Franciscans, Thailand; 2015-2017: Guardian and Parish priest of the San Francisco de Asís Convent-Parish, Director of the Ecclesiastical Documentation Center in Tarija, Diocese of Tarija, Bolivia; since 2017: Apostolic Administrator of the Apostolic Vicariate of Camiri.
