Paris (Agenzia Fides) - On the occasion of the 360th anniversary of the foundation of the "Missions Etrangeres de Paris" (MEP), and in preparation for the Extraordinary Missionary Month of October 2019, organized by Pope Francis, on February 8th and 9th, at the MEP headquarters in Paris will host a "Colloquium on the theology of the mission ad gentes". According to the note sent to Agenzia Fides, the objective is to contribute to formulating new language elements, suitable for our times, to strengthen the missionary movement and to continue nourishing the life of the whole Church.
The opening of the colloquium, on the afternoon of 8 February, will be held by the MEP Superior General, Fr. Gilles Reithinger. The first group of speeches intend to trace an overview of the ad gentes missionary movement that has animated the Church since the foundation of the Society for the Paris Foreign Missions to today and see how the foundation's insights are compared to today’s new problems. On the morning of Saturday 9, the speeches will focus on the models of holiness caused by the Holy Spirit in the mission ad gentes, while the afternoon will be dedicated to "drawing from the treasure of the Church to renew missionary reflection" with a biblical, systematic and historical approach to the mission ad gentes. The speakers are university professors, scholars, archbishops and bishops. The conclusions of the colloquium will be held by the Dominican, Thomas Michelet, Professor of sacramental theology and ecclesiology at the Angelicum. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 7/2/2019)
