EUROPE/SPAIN - Appointment of National Director of the PMS, Fr. José Maria Calderon Castro

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – On December 19, 2018 Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed the rev. Fr. José Maria Calderon Castro, of the clergy of the Archdiocese of Madrid as National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Spain for five years (2018-2023).
The new National Director was born in Madrid on August 8, 1963 and was ordained a priest on May 13, 1989. He obtained a license in Moral Theology at the Pontifical University of Comillas (1988) and attended a course of missionary Evangelization at the San Damaso faculty of theology in Madrid (2009-2010). He was deputy pastor, parish priest, religious teacher, vice councilor and then general councilor of Catholic Action, chaplain of the Missionaries of charity, diocesan councilor of Manos unidas, Episcopal Delegate for the Missions. Since 2011 he has been Coordinator of the "Corpus Christi" diocesan priests movement in Spain, since 2017 he was the National Assistant Director of the PMS and since 2018 he has been Director of the Secretariat of the Episcopal Commission of the Missions and Cooperation in the Church of the Spanish Episcopal Conference.
