AMERICA/PERU - Vatican II: prospects for 3rd Millennium, International Congress on ecclesial event celebrated 40 years ago

Lima (Fides Service) - Vatican II: prospects for 3rd Millennium is the title of an International Congress to be held 21 and 22 January at the Antonio Raimondi Auditorium in Lima, Peru. The Congress organised by the VE Multimedia Catholic Association will reflect on the history making ecclesial event celebrated 40 years ago. Participants will include Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani Thorne Archbishop of Lima; Archbishop Alcides Mendoza Castro emeritus of Cusco, the youngest bishop present at the Second Vatican Council; Bishop Amaury Castanho emeritus of Jundiai, Brazil; Pedro Monradé Court Chilean sociologist and a member of the Pontifical Academy of Social Science; Luis F. Figari founder of the Sodality of Christian Life; Fr. Armando Nieto Vélez SJ, historian and Vicente Espeche Gil former member of the Pontifical Council for the Laity .
Among the topics for reflection we note: Lumen Gentium: the Church of Jesus Christ and the third millennium; Gaudium et Spes: being in the world but not of the world; a correct reading of the Council in view of the third millennium”; “Apostolicam Actuositatem: the laity and the third millennium”. The programme will include group discussion on: the Council in the historical perspective; the impact of Vatican II on the family, consecrated life, Catholic education, the liturgical reform and the means of social communications.
