Tuesday, 11 December 2018 migrants   culture   extraordinary missionary month   evangelization   missionary animation   mission

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – To explore the context and the faces of the mission of the Church in Asia in relation to migration today: with this goal from 10 to 15 December a group of Christian scholars, theologians and experts are gathered in Rome at CIAM (Centro Internazionale di Animazione Missionaria) for a study seminar. The participants come from India, Lebanon, Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan
In particular, the Seminar will focus on the panorama of migratory movement today and the images and challenges of evangelisation in the four principal migratory fluxes to and from Asia (East Asia, Southern Asia, South East Asia and the Middle East). The scholars will explore four key implicated areas considering the work of evangelisation and how it is characterised in relation to the phenomenon of migration: religious conversion to a different faith; intercultural and interreligious relations; instruction and formation of the laity (including migrants) and also for missionaries working with migrants; and the phenomenon of migrants as missionaries and evangelizers. The Seminar, which is part of preparatory activities in view of the Extraordinary Missionary Month scheduled for October 2019, intends to discern the evangelising mission of the baptised in Asia in this epoch of major migratory fluxes.
