AFRICA/MALAWI - PMS meeting in view of preparations for Extraordinary Missionary Month in October 2019

Lilongwe (Agenzia Fides)- “As Directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies you bear the burden of convincing priests, religious and laity in your local Churches to cooperate with the different mission activities promoted every year by the PMS. This requires catechesis theological, spiritual and pastoral on the Church’s missionary nature” said Fr. Joseph Kimu, Director of Radio Maria Malawi at a regional meeting of national and diocesan Directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Malawi and Zambia. The regional meeting was held at the Montfort Lake Congress Centre” in the diocese of Mangochi in Malawi, to discuss modalities of evangelisation and missionary cooperation in the region. The initiative is part of preparations for the Extraordinary Missionary Month in October 2019.
In his intervention the National PMS Director of Zambia, Fr. Edwin Mulandu, highlighted the nature, mission and ecclesiological missionary role of the PMS today. Fr. Mulandu said what is needed is a global approach in mission animation, he encouraged the participation of the lay faithful in missionary cooperation, and he stressed the need to instil missionary awareness in children the elderly, with an integrated approach to the promotion of all four Mission Societies.
